Buster

About
Buster’s consultation focused on understanding why he was finding certain types of touch and handling so difficult, and how these experiences were affecting his day‑to‑day wellbeing.
His history suggested that some of his reactions were rooted in past trauma and sensory overwhelm, so the aim of the session was to explore these underlying factors rather than simply manage the outward behaviour.
To build a full picture of what Buster was experiencing, I carried out a complete behaviour consultation followed by detailed follow‑up questions. This allowed me to dig deeper into the emotional, sensory and environmental influences behind his responses.
As part of this process, I completed:
-
A sensory profile to identify which types of touch, environments and interactions were overwhelming for him
-
A risk assessment to ensure safety and clarity for both Buster and his family
-
A trauma‑informed behavioural assessment to understand the “why” behind his reactions
-
A full history including health, family, behaviour, eating, routines and more.
This combination of structured assessment and gentle exploration helps us understand the dog behind the behaviour — not just what he does, but what he feels. By identifying the root causes of Buster’s difficulties, we can support him with a plan that prioritises safety, predictability and emotional regulation.
