Enrichment Field

Where natural behaviours and

sensory exploration come to life

Dogs understand their world through movement, scent, texture, sound, and natural behaviours like sniffing, shredding, digging, searching, and problem‑solving. Our enrichment area is designed to give them safe, structured opportunities to express those instincts in ways that build confidence, reduce frustration, and support emotional wellbeing.

By offering a variety of sensory experiences — from different surfaces and smells to interactive equipment that encourages exploration — we help dogs practise the behaviours they’re biologically driven to do. This isn’t just “extra play”; it’s meaningful activity that supports calmer behaviour at home, improves resilience, and allows dogs to process their environment at their own pace.

Below, you’ll find each piece of sensory equipment we use, what it’s for, and how it helps your dog learn, relax, and thrive.

Sandpit

Senses/Behaviours: Digging, scent work, proprioception, natural foraging

A sand pit gives dogs a safe, appropriate outlet for digging and searching behaviours. The shifting surface builds body awareness, while the opportunity to dig, bury, and uncover items supports instinctive behaviours that reduce frustration and promote calm, focused exploration.

Trampoline

Senses/Behaviours: Proprioception, balance, body awareness, confidence building

The gentle bounce of a trampoline helps dogs develop better control over their body and movement. Navigating an unstable surface builds confidence, improves coordination, and supports dogs who benefit from controlled physical challenge in a safe, positive way. When multiple dogs play together, the soft, shock‑absorbing surface is kinder on their joints than hard ground, allowing them to move, chase, and interact with reduced impact.

Herb tyre stack

Senses/Behaviours: Scent exploration, environmental investigation, calm focus

A stack of herb‑filled tyres invites dogs to explore a variety of natural scents at their own pace. Sniffing is a key calming behaviour, helping dogs process information and regulate their emotions. The different heights and angles also encourage gentle body movement and curiosity, making this a soothing, confidence‑building sensory experience

Tether ball
(various attachments)

Senses/Behaviours: Tugging, chasing, grabbing, problem‑solving, natural predatory play

A tether ball gives dogs an outlet for instinctive grab, pull, and chase behaviours in a controlled, safe way. Different attachments offer varied textures, resistance levels, and movement patterns, keeping the activity mentally stimulating and physically satisfying. This helps dogs release energy appropriately, build confidence, and practise natural behaviours without becoming overstimulated.

Water feature

Senses/Behaviours: Touch, sound sensitivity, environmental processing, calm exploration

A gentle water feature offers dogs a safe way to investigate moving water through sound, sight, and touch. The soft sound can also promote relaxation, supporting emotional regulation and providing a calming sensory experience for dogs who benefit from slow, soothing enrichment.

Cobbled Stream

Senses/Behaviours: Touch, proprioception, environmental processing, confidence building

A shallow cobbled stream encourages dogs to explore gentle water movement while navigating uneven stones beneath their paws. The combination of cool water, varied textures, and shifting footing helps dogs build body awareness and confidence in new environments. It supports calm investigation, reduces sensitivity to different surfaces, and offers a soothing sensory experience that many dogs find grounding and relaxing.

Texture pads

Senses/Behaviours: Touch, proprioception, environmental processing, confident movement

Texture pads made from natural materials like log slices, stones, shells, and bark encourage dogs to explore a variety of surfaces under their paws. This helps them build body awareness, reduces sensitivity to new textures, and supports calm, thoughtful investigation. Moving across different materials at their own pace boosts confidence and helps dogs become more resilient in everyday environments.

Scent log and platform

Senses/Behaviours: Scent work, problem‑solving, environmental exploration, confidence building, natural foraging

This large scent log is designed with multiple holes to encourage deep, focused sniffing and natural foraging behaviours. Dogs can investigate scents at different heights and angles, supporting calm concentration and mental stimulation. The added platform, with steps or a ramp, allows dogs to climb safely and enjoy an elevated viewpoint. Being “tall” helps build confidence, supports body awareness, and gives dogs a new way to explore their environment from above.

Foraging areas

Senses/Behaviours: Scent exploration, environmental investigation, calm foraging, natural curiosity

Wildflower patches create a soft, natural space filled with gentle scents, movement, and visual variety. As dogs wander through the flowers, they’re encouraged to sniff, investigate, and process their environment at a relaxed pace. The mix of heights, textures, and natural smells supports emotional regulation, reduces stress, and allows dogs to engage in calm, instinctive foraging behaviours in a peaceful, nature‑rich setting.
